Eagle 062024
Possibly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. For me, at least. Driving by, I saw this eagle on the side of the road eating what looks like a rabbit, and he didn't seem to mind the traffic. I turned around and pulled up right next to him. All I had was my phone, but considering, it's not bad. He didn't want to give up his dinner, so while keeping an eye on me, he continued to eat.

Snapper on the Road

We try to get turtles off the road whenever possible. Some turtles don't seem to appreciate it as much as others, but whatever. Before you get nervous about my having moved him, this is a busy road, the turtle was a male (so no egg-laying issues), and we see LOTS of smashed turtles on this road, so there you have it.
130 Bridge over Wisconsin River - Lone Rock, WI 27 May, 2024
Просмотров 2321 день назад
I believe the existing bridge was built in 1932, so while it's picturesque, it's definitely time for a new one. Because of islands in the river, there are actually three bridges. All three are in the process of being replaced by one new bridge, which will connect on the other side roughly a quarter of a mile to the northwest... I think. Here's a drive over the bridge(s), both ways, back in Sept...

2024 Total Eclipse - Collection of Still Shots

This is simply all (OK, most) of the stills I shot on 8 April. Most were shot using a piece of exposed and developed sheet film, so it's not optically as good as a glass filter. Still, they're acceptable. At one point near totality, I could take the filter off, and then put it back after. There's a note in the video telling where this was done.
Music Hath Charm...

William Congreve said "Music hath charm to soothe the savage beast. (To soften rocks, or bend the knotted oak)." Looks like these savage beasts were somewhat charmed. I mean, at least, they didn't stampede me. In my next video I will attempt - with my banjo - to soften a rock and/or bend a knotted oak... whatever that is. P.S. Please excuse the bumpy playing. I was walking through a cow pasture...

I've driven right past this spot countless times, but only learned that it was there three days ago... and then, only one of the two hills. So I had to go back today so I could get video of both hills.

Juncos in the Snow

We have a suet feeder up, but the juncos don't do feeders, I guess; so we put out some seeds. They're also not shy about the camera. They were walking right under the tripod, paying no attention at all. If the camera is out, some birds won't come near, but these guys don't seem to care at all.

This is by far THEE most sincere pumpkin patch I've ever seen. I shall be waiting there tomorrow night for the Great Pumpkin to arrive. Hmmmmm, it's supposed to get down to 20° overnight tomorrow... I gotta think about this for a bit.

Name that tune?
Like her voice. Good band.

And pay particular attention to the soothing background "songs" of our @#$#@% neighbors' @#$^%& roosters. (that's sarcasm if you didn't catch it...❤)
Wow - I never knew that Richard Farnsworth played guitar..and so well!
Nice work!!!
in the first place if your really from sheboygan you would know that you go to the local butcher to get brats NOT THE GROCERY STORE!!!
I still think you captured the best version of Leo Kottke performing “Rings”. Thanks again
GREAT VIDEO BRATS AMAZING YUMMY 😋 THANKS YOU GOODNESS 🌟❤️🖤💚🤎 FAMILY DAPHNE COTTON ALWAYS 💜
My name is Bond. Johnny Bond. I wrote this one.
lol, a year later, same problem, same fix...it worked again...thanks again
I used to describe my spouse like that. Then after almost three decades got divorced. Company picnic where you have to pretend you like something you eat? …Are you a man? What cowering passive aggressive shit did I just watch???? You are the reason women hate men. Gross.
we'll call it a tie.
This is American music at its best!
Alan Munde is one of the greats on the five string !
Always liked Alan Munde style of banjo playing learned a lot of tunes off his albums back in the day !
Johnsville brats blow goats! You would have to pay me to eat them!
My point is, many locally-made bratwurst, even around Wisconsin, aren't that good. If nothing is available, Johnsonville are fine. They're not my favorite either, but they certainly don't perform such acts on farm animals.
Alan Munde, you are so dang good. Great band behind you too...Jack R. Baker NYC/NJ
This could be a great sport with really good archers and different rules ..like you have to take a shot of wild turkey every time you miss
Well, who's saying we don't have such "variations" on the game? ;-)
Pretty sure thats the Banjo Kid (Alano Mundeo) working his magic on the ol 5 string. Stelling performance sir, louvin from Portugal.
Just found this. Brought me to tears. I really miss my super awesome friend, Gunjan.
Would this work with Gotoh planetary tuners? I've got a banjo where when I try to tune the 2nd string to B, as soon as I let go it slides down to Bb. So I tuned the banjo down to F, and it still slipped. So I tuned it down to E. With that tuning I can play two songs before the 2nd string slips out of tune. So I tuned to banjo all the way down to D. With that I can play 4 to 5 songs before the strings slip. Planetary tuners are complete garbage. For some reason banjo players think they're better than worm gear tuners on guitars, but they are not. I have a clunky banjo that uses sealed worm gear tuners. It stays in tune for months. But my banjos with planetary tuners, I put them in tune, set them down, come back 15 minutes later and every string is slightly out of tune.
I can't tell you if it would work or not, but probably no harm if you try it. Let me know if/how it works.
Update: The opening piece he played is called To My Chagrin, the second is called Flattop
It worked great on my Stelling. You Da Boss, Hoss!
Good sauerkraut or Good slaw. Then it's done lol. Maybe pickled jalapenos
Leo, I love you❤️
Thank you, Fran. Love you too 💜💜
Me too.
Well I just saw a cool way the Germans served them. It was a brat bun NOT SLICED, but hollowed out. They put what you wanted inside the hollowed out part and slid the brat in. I can see that being a lot less messier to eat.
Potato roll... fight me
About 10 years later, flattop appears on Mike Gordon and Leo Kottke's new album "Noon". Genius!! A personal memory - in the span of 1 second from 2:55 to 2:56, Leo plays a magic line of 7 notes. I could never forget that line for a decade. He played this tunes in many concerts later. But this was the first video then. So thank you Mike Schmidt!!
I believe this was the only time we ever played that one.
Alan Munde on banjo, Alan Munde on banjo, Alan Munde on banjo . . . Bears repeatin' . . .
This is an outstanding version! Thanks for posting! By the way, would you mind if I post an instrumental-only version of this? I love Leo's vocals, though sometimes I have a yearning for instrumental versions of music I love... no worries either way :) I already listen to it on my mp3 player and just wondered if you and RUclips might enjoy it also. Great vid and thank you no matter what!
Mikey, don't let these German haters tell you what's what. Sheboygan forever baby!
Gold tier brats
Loved your generous serving size at the end. nice work. . . One of the best 'sandwiches' I have ever had was at Road America (Elkhart Lk, WI), it was a double cheese burger but one of the 'burgers' was a bratwurst. . . Once the number one brand of brats here are a direct import from Germany, Wisconsin is the bratwurst epicenter here. . .
I actually prefer the reverse method: beer simmer, then grill. No flare ups, quick consistent results. They tend to get rubbery if put in beer solution after grilling, imho
Holy Moly, it worked. I have a nice ome monarch with these tuners. Like you said it felt tight but was not staying in tune. It would go out of tune within seconds.....it's now been 10 minutes, still in tune. good that Bill set you straight .Thanks Kim
Excellent. He also sent me some leather replacements for the original rubber washers. Honestly, I don't know if they helped because the procedure itself fixed the problem, but I put them on anyway. Glad it worked for you!
Thanks for the memories! We were at this show in Madison in 2010. Had been staying at Wilderness Lodge in the Dells and visiting a friend in Tomahawk. This was the fly home stint back in Madison. Great show. We were sitting close to where you were recording! Small world...
I am thinking of installing these all in my 6 string ,so I am buying Schaller so if there are 2 sizes ,so if I buy 3sets ,will it work www.thomann.de/gb/schaller_banjo_b4_d_tuner_nl.htm Buying these
Isn't that Alan Munde on banjo?
It is, indeed.
@@melvoid Hi Mike!
Can you do a video of what the new bridge looks like after 10 years
I guess. Consisting of what? Driving over it? When the weather gets nicer, I might be able to get some aerial shots. What would you want to see?

This is cool.
Now I know how to do it right!👍
Pretty sure ground zero for bratwurst was medieval Germany, and the kaiser roll was the father of the hard roll, so.. Nice attempt at trying to Americanize yet another product thats clearly not ours 😂
As I've repeated ad nauseam, I'm talking about the AMERICAN grilled version (God, how I wish I'd said that in the video!). Sheboygan was heavily German and they took an EXISTING food item and reworked it a bit. I did the video for FUN. You know what that is, right? Relax.
Mike Schmidt first off, the best way to not get subscribers is to talk shit to them. You know that, right??? Second of all, if you dont like people correcting you, take the fucking video down. Make a different one where you dont sound like a complete arrogant American. Cause as long as this video is here for people to watch, they will correct you. Stop acting like everyone else here are the assholes when youre the one making videos then getting pissed when people correct your clearly wrong statement. Have a good day and good luck on your channel, tough guy.
Mike Schmidt and again, I cant stress this enough. If youre an asshole to people that comment on your videos, youll get an even further negative response from them and future people looking at your videos.
Fake ass Germans 🙄
Nice footage , thanks for sharing
I used to go to The Scholar in Minneapolis to hear him when I was still in high school. This man is amazing.
